We all know that great music takes us to great times in out past, but what about music AND film taking us to farmiliar places we've never been? Or don't recall? Before I went to the Netherlands, I had been listening to a band from Holland called 'The Gathering'. Their music conjured up images, and feelings of being in a place I'v never been before. I stepped off a train from the Amsterdam airport to central Amstedam and finally understood it. I know what you're saying...Amsterdam...drugs, and all those legal things that are taboo here in the States are the factor. No. Before stepping into a 'Cafe' at 8am I felt it!
And what about movies? Every now and then I'll come across a movie that I get the same feeling from. Whether its a scarry movie or a romantic comedy, sometimes I feel a glimpse of a point in time I haven't gotten to yet or even a point in time I've missed. Kind of like missed by a few minutes, hours, or days that have changed the course of everything thats proceedes after those moments. I know, I'm sounding a lil crazy...But even those of you who've buried away the part of you that somehow understand this...understand this.
For example, a movie titled 'Mothman Prophecies' which is based on actual documented sightings from a few key places all over the world, has a very physiological and mental affect on me. I can't explain it. There has always been a futuristic farmiliararity I've felt when whatching this favorite of mine. Yes, It could be my inate mind of splitting and reading way too much...or? My point isn't my over thinking, but those crazy possibilies that roam all our brains and that there possibly is validity...
True art; film, music, paintings, food, or what the hell ever, is a glimpse of future past and present.
Fuck the conservatives that want to spend more on the football program than the art program...it took an artist to figure out that competetive sports were important too.
